As Wales’ first dual qualified lawyer and trainer, Helen began her legal career over fifteen years ago at a top 100 Cardiff law firm. Upon qualification, she became a specialist employment lawyer advising on a broad spectrum of employment law issues for five years. During this time, her passion for communication and ability to explain technical legal concepts in a no-nonsense, straightforward, and personal way was discovered, leading to her gaining accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development to become a lawyer who was also an accredited trainer. This unique skillset presented Helen with an opportunity to establish a dedicated, stand-alone Training Team to provide innovative learning and development solutions to the firm’s clients, the success of which secured UK-wide recognition for the Team as a leader in its field. As well as securing annual nationwide short-listings and highly commended accolades for the quality of the training offering, Helen lead the Team to award successes across several categories including excellence in learning and development, client impact, and innovation. Awarding bodies included The Law Society, British Legal Awards, Legal Education and Training Group, and Modern Law Awards with peers across both the legal and training professionals acknowledging and rewarding the impact of the training offering.

Helen has designed, delivered and evaluated hundreds of training interventions across the sectors and is skilled at ensuring key messages are understood across the hierarchy of an organisation. As such Helen regularly delivers training for senior management teams and boards of management, yet frequently delivers to those in non-managerial roles, with a particular ability to ensure consistency of message and inclusivity. She blends the legal with the practical to ensure that all delegates understand the standards expected of them, and provides them with the practical skills to hit those standards on a day to day basis. Helen is also regularly invited to deliver key note speeches at industry-specific Conferences and seminars including events for ACAS, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Race Council Cymru, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and several local government business forums across Wales. Helen is member of the Law Society, Employment Lawyers Association and Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Helen is also a contributor for articles and blogs in the national press.

Born in the Rhondda Valley and having grown up in Cardiff, Helen studied in law in Exeter University before settling back in Wales. Now living in Cardiff as a wife and mum to a rather fabulous little boy, Helen’s other love is for the oval shaped ball as a dedicated Scarlets follower, holding the immovable belief that West is Best!
